This is the first post of what we hope will be many recording the development and goings-on of the parish allotment.
Work on the allotment started in October of last year. The walled garden at the side of the church has been overgrown for a long time. In the summer of 2019 twelve narrow plots were created by two parishioners, Neil and Jim. The plots were quickly adopted by a number of interested gardeners. A year on and a Covid lockdown later, these plots, in the main, had gone to seed.
Here’s a short video showing the garden before the contractors started work.
By November the timber boxes for the raised beds had been put in place and we were optimistic that, weather permitting, work would continue to plan.
The next stage involved the levelling of the ground and the laying of stone chippings.
Despite the cold and wet weather work on the garden has continued into the new year with the completion of paths and planting of fruit trees on espaliers fixed to the walls.
